Spatial Strategy

Client: Aldar Properties

Year: 2025

Role: Creative Lead — Concept Strategy, UX/UI, Spatial Experience Design, 3D/BIM Workflow Exploration, Prototype Direction

Challenge / Context

Aldar presented two connected innovation challenges.

The first asked how immersive and spatial technology could shape future residential and leisure experiences.

The second asked whether realtime technology could improve elements of an established BIM-led property-development workflow.

I worked across both, leading concept development for the future-facing Exclusively Al Fahid proposition while also leading UX/UI thinking for spatial property and construction visualisation prototypes.

The Approach

Two problems, one technology strategy

The work covered both resident-facing spatial experiences and internal BIM workflows.

On the experience side, the work explored how spatial interfaces could support residents and visitors through navigation, local information, culture, discovery and location-aware services.

On the operational side, we investigated how realtime visualisation could complement existing BIM workflows and make complex development information easier to explore spatially.

For the consumer proposition, I developed a mobile-first interaction model that combined familiar 2D mapping and information architecture with emerging spatial UI patterns.

The concept used familiar interface patterns as a bridge towards increasingly spatial interaction. Familiar interface conventions could provide a bridge towards increasingly spatial interaction as devices and user expectations evolved.

That work ultimately fed into a 47-page proposal containing multiple concepts and future use cases for Al Fahid, including tourism, culture, local services, discovery and location-aware experiences.

Understanding the existing system

I worked with Aldar’s Design and Creative teams to understand existing workflows, identify pressure points and determine where emerging technology could realistically complement established processes.

I also worked with internal development leadership and Aldar’s 3D teams to understand model formats, departmental workflows and how realtime prototypes might fit around existing infrastructure.

Outcome

The project produced both strategic and tangible outputs: a substantial future-facing proposition, defined audience and service concepts, interface architecture, investigation of existing BIM processes and working realtime prototypes.

The project translated a broad smart-city ambition into a clearer experience model, supported by technology evaluation and rapid prototyping.
